Text2Mindmap

The task was to make a concept map to see the value in this online tool. I have used Bubbl.us before for concept mapping (view an example here) and I found it to be much more user friendly, quicker and easier. I've examined this further in the following SWOT analysis on the topic:

Strengths:
  • Very easy to use when you need a one off mind map quickly
  • Suits different learning styles. Information is typed in a very linear order (Suits sequential learners) and at the click of a button turns into something very visual (Suits visual learners and active learners).
  • Have some control over visual elements but not so much that you get carried away and lose focus
Weaknesses:
  • You can't save your concept map and come back and make edits to it
  • If your project is going to be ongoing then it's best to use bubbl.us
Opportunities:
  • Students are able to give feedback on their experience with Text2Mindmap. This provides another reflective tool and encourages analysis and evaluation. Gets students thinking about how they would improve such a tool
Threats:
  • If you accidently hit the wrong button your work is completely gone
  • because there is no way to login to this site, students have no ties (engagement) with the site and may not come back and use it again. It could be a one off visit
