On this new wiki I was able to better align with Learning Engagement theory and Kearsley and Shneiderman’s (1999) relate-create-donate principles.
The fundamental difference between this wiki and my first was that the Year 11 Art Space Wiki gives students a connection to the real world. As well as being a place for indepth discussion and high level analysis students are able to link to sites where they can network with industry professionals. It gets them thinking outside the classroom and into their future outside of school. They ask themselves questions like 'what can I do now that is going to make my portfolio stronger for the future'. I think when students see a real outcome that could effect their future they are more likely to stay engaged and on track.
I created a website (click here) that provides the same sort of content for students but the difference is that the students can't contribute to the content on a website. It is static and less engaging. All the same resources can be stored on a wiki and students are able to add to the list.
There are important legal, safe and ethical guidelines that effect both what teachers and students upload to a wiki. I created a page on the wiki that gives students access to all the terms and conditions of both the wikiplaces website and theloop website. It was important that they read the conditions on the loop in case they decide to upload their portfolios to a site that is not protected under the same education guidelines the wiki is.

I have read and understood the guidelines as to a teachers obligations on a wiki. I also understand that if I upload students original work to a public site or use it for other purposes I need to seek permission from the parent or guardian if the child is under 18 years old.
I understand the statutory text and Artistic Licence for Educational Copying of Literacy, Dramatic, Musical and Artistic Works and that all images must be labelled with not just the author but the copywrite owner (if defferent) and the words "Copied under Part VB". Click here for more information
Copywriting and safe and ethical guidelines are very confusing so until I am extremely familiar with the rules I will always check if I am within the guidelines for each activity.
